More Buzz on Personal Agility and Responsibility

Portia Tung kindly commented on my recent post about the buzz on my Agile University article that she would like to see me present Responsibility Redefined at Agile2008. . .

Gotta respond to a softball like that

Hey Portia – thanks for the nudge, and for the kudos on Responsibility Redefined. I’ve beenImage of MP3 product debating what to propose for Agile 2008. At Agile2005, 2006, and 2007 I’ve done a tutorial or talking head titled “Demonstrating Responsibility: The Mindset of an Agile Leader.” That was also a keynote at the combined XPAgileUniverse2004 (was that the right name?) conference in Calgary.

My team turned out an audio MP3 replay of the Agile2007 session so people like you can listen to it, even repeatedly if that’s helpful (it is for me — I listen to truly important and life-changing content over and over to even begin to integrate it into my nervous system!), and, so you can share it with others.

Question for you . . .

What would you like to see me propose for Agile2008? Should I continue to offer the same title. It always draws a crowd.

Or should I offer the material in a little different positioning? Like “Unlocking and Activating Your Personal Agility: Putting Your Response Ability to Work.”

What do you think?

  1. Christopher,

I have seen you present responsibility redefined 3 times and I love it. I will come everytime you do it. That said, if I have the opportunity to influence your thinking, I would love you see you take it in a different direction. I think your suggestion about Unlocking your Personal Agility sounds great. Looking forward to seeing you again and hearing you speak!

  2. Thanks Mike, I appreciate your kudos, your support, and your nudge. For some thoughts about personal agility you might want to check out http://www.masteringpersonalagility.com

Let me know what you think.

    Hi Christopher,

I’ve since listened to Demonstrating Responsibility: The Mindset of Agile Leader (http://www.christopheravery.com/store/agile2007audio.html) and really enjoyed it.

Here are some of the things I’m interested in hearing more about in relation to the Responsibility Redefined model:

    - How to coach others to use and adopt the model
    - The concept and role of gift giving and shared responsibility
    - How to overcome the counter-intuitive preference (to me anyway) of POWER-Over and POWER-TO/BY to POWER-WITH
    - Kenneth Boulding’s 3 Faces of Power in relation to your work
    - How to use the model when faced with uncertainty
    - Cognitive biases and how to leverage them instead of succumb to them
    - Any research work you’re doing which might help others

I’ll be sure to post more comments as ideas come up.

    - Portia

  4. Hi Portia,

Thanks for your investment in listening as well as listening for what else you would want to learn.

May I ask you to say a few more words about some of your bullet points? For instance, tell me what you mean about “how to use the model when faced with uncertainty” and “cognitive biases and how to leverage them . . .”

    Thanks!
    Christopher
